The Institute of Political Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences was established on the basis of the Resolution of the Presidency of the Slovak Academy of Sciences no. 14 with effect from 1 February 1990 as the Political Science Cabinet of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Based on the resolution of the Presidium of the Slovak Academy of Sciences no. 208, with effect from 1 March 2002, was renamed the Institute of Political Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
